It all began with a game of soccer and a group of girls who had never been asked to play.
We brought a coach, t-shirts, soccer balls, and sent the boys away.
What can good sparks do?
Sparks inspire girls to step out of their comfort zone on the field, into the studio, or to the front of the room, even when it feels hard.
inspire
create action
Sparks creates the supportive environment for girls to compete fiercely, laugh loudly, and lead with kindness, all in the same afternoon.
the project rests on two pillars of equal weight, and the magic happens when they meet
Sparks create lasting and meaningful relationships including those with partners, educators, community leaders and donors who share this passion.
build relationships
Girls from communities with limited resources in towns across Central America join sports teams and leadership programs. They build confidence, friendships, and life skills, and they grow into captains, coaches, and leaders.
Girls from North America raise funds, write grant applications, meet with corporate sponsors, train as leaders, and travel to play, and lead alongside local girls. They come home with lifelong friendships, a wider view of the world, and real leadership experience.
The girls ran, laughed, and asked when they could play again.
That evening at the hotel, we spoke about a question we could not stop asking.
What would happen if these girls had a team, a coach who believed in her, and a reason to show up every week?
Today, Sparks for Good helps to bring girls from the U.S., and Canada together with girls from communities with few resources through sport.
And the goal is that girls from North America can make Sparks for Good - inspiring girls who once stood on the sidelines to become captains, coaches, and mentors for the girls who come next. And for the girls from North America, we all come home inspired, more resilient and ready to create Sparks for Good in our own communities.
